Submission
Information
For Writers
Are you an SCBWI Member who has written an article of interest
to other SCBWI members? Email a query letter regarding your article
idea (or the full article as an attachment) to bulletin@scbwi.org.
The Bulletin welcomes
submissions from our members that are of interest to writers or illustrators.
Payment for full-length articles is $50 plus a
year’s SCBWI membership.
For Illustrators
While random
drawings of cats and caterpillars are always accepted for consideration,
your illustrations will have a better chance of being used if they are
somehow related to the general themes of our regular columns and departments.
Consider giving that cat a paint brush for inclusion on the “Art
Tips” page, or maybe your caterpillar is reading a newspaper on
our “News & Notes” page.
Regular Departments & Columns
for which we are always in need of themed illustrations include:
• News & Notes
• Legally Speaking
• Art Tips
• SCBWI International: Here, There, & Everywhere
• Book Review
• Publisher’s Corner
Please take a look at back issues of the Bulletin for the formats of these
departments & columns and submit art that might be appropriate. Also,
keep an eye on the SCBWI Announcements forum on the discussion
boards for bi-monthly postings of upcoming editorial feature subjects
for which illustrations are needed.
Payment for illustrations is $25 per drawing.
SCBWI retains only the first time rights. When submitting art, please
follow the following steps.
Submission Guidelines:
1. You must be a current SCBWI Member to submit.
2. Illustrations
should be emailed to bulletin@scbwi.org.
3. All digital file should be titled with the first and
last name of the illustrator, followed by a number for multiple submissions.
(i.e. “John_Doe1.jpg”)
4. Images should be 300 DPI, TIF or JPG files; total file size 5MB or
less. (Zipped or compressed folder attachments are fine.)
5. Color mode of all digital art must be CMYK or Grayscale, not RGB.
6. While we prefer email submissions, hard copies may be mailed to SCBWI
Bulletin Editor, 8271 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048.
7. SCBWI cannot be held responsible for lost, missing, or damaged art.
We are not accepting general submissions for cover art at this time.
