Critique Group Connection

Critique Group Connection

___________________________________________________________

Are you interested in forming, joining or adding members to a critique group? You’re in the right place! Participating in a critique group is a great way to strengthen your writing and/or illustration and connect with like-minded peers.

If you’d like to start/join a group, complete this form

Our Critique Coordinator will match you with a group once we have at least four people with similar interests/requirements (e.g., PB writers willing to meet virtually). Or, if you match the profile of an existing group looking to add members, our Critique Coordinator will forward your contact information to that group.

If you’d like to add members to an existing group, complete this form

Our Critique Coordinator will send you the contact information of anyone matching the profile of your group. Feel free to also post a link to this form on MichKids with a description of your group, where/how you meet and other relevant information.

If you’d like to mentor a new critique group, complete this form

Benefits of Mentoring a Critique Group

Help newer writers on their path toward publication by helping them build solid critiquing skills

Share effective ways to give and accept feedback and manage critique groups

Give back to the Michigan writing community in a fun, low-commitment way

Interested mentors should have at least three years of experience participating in critique groups. This is a short-term commitment: mentors typically participate in the first two critique group meetings of a new group.

Our Critique Group Coordinator will share your information with a group looking for a mentor.

Benefits of Having a Critique Group Mentor

Learn effective strategies for giving and receiving feedback

Rely on a more experienced critique group participant to help your group get up and running and develop a process for long-term success

Have a sounding board for any questions or issues that arise in the early stages of your group

Please note:

Critique Group Connection is only open to current SCBWI MI members.

Once groups are formed, they are no longer part of SCBWI. Each group is responsible for managing itself. If an issue arises that requires attention, please contact SCBWI MI Critique Group Coordinator Lynn Baldwin.

Please be patient – it may take a while for a critique group to come together.

Any questions? Contact Lynn Baldwin.
