SCBWI Benefits

Some global benefits for all members, new or seasoned

Create your Speaker Profile. The Speakers Bureau curated by SCBWI is a free benefit offered to members to help them obtain school, library, and conference speaking opportunities. Click “speaker profile” on your member profile page to add your information. 

SCBWI regions offer affordable virtual events featuring industry professionals from all around the globe – and you can attend from the comfort of your own home!

Create your SCBWI Member Profile. When you log in to www.SCBWI.org, you’ll land on your member profile. Add information and a headshot so you are findable for publishers, agents, and other members. Click on “edit profile” to add your picture and information. 

Promote your book/s. Published authors and illustrators can promote their books at our online SCBWI BookStop event. Once a year, October through November, members are given the opportunity to create a special sales page on the SCBWI website for a newly published book. SCBWI BookStop pages are available online for six weeks. Click HERE for more information about the program. 

SCBWI's Blueboard is an online message and chat room open to every member around the world. It is a vast resource. Check it out (but set a timer!)

Want to promote your new book? Reach out to our Promotions Coordinator and be featured on The Mitten blog Book Birthday column. 

Need support? Join MichKids--our free online neighborhood where our Michigan writers and illustrators have online discussions about the business, craft, and events. You can post questions and connect with like-minded creators. Check out our "Connect to our Online Community" webpage to learn how to join. 

Want a local connection? Join a Shop Talk. Throughout the state, small Shop Talk groups meet regularly for discussion, instruction, and practice. Shop Talks are free for members! Check out the Michigan's Events and Shoptalks page to see what's happening around the region.

Need hands-on help? Consider applying for a mentorship. Each year, we offer a year-long mentorship with a well recognized author or illustrator. The mentorship is open to current SCBWI-MI members only and can be a career changing experience. For more information, check our Mentorship Program page.

Want to expand your publishing CV? The Mitten is SCBWI Michigan's official blog. Michigan members’ illustrations are featured as banner art on a rotating basis. Members can submit blog posts. Click HERE to read the blog and sign up to receive the latest posts in your inbox. 

Want to learn? Members receive reduced fees for all SCBWI hosted events. For instance, take part in SCBWI MI's Community-Wide Webinars or watch the replays. Offered on Zoom at least four times a year, these webinars are designed to move you forward in your craft and your book creating business.
