As we know, fiction is a rich resource to gain insight into diverse perspectives, and to promote social and emotional learning. Studying fiction as part of a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) program allows students to develop literacy skills while making real-world connections. In this webinar, Jo Watson Hackl, the award-winning author of SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF MAYBE (Random House Children’s Books), will present practical tips on how to create engaging school visits that use fiction to help students make cross-curricular and text to real-world connections.
