Join us for a presentation by early childhood educator Gennie Gorback focusing on the aspects of child development most important to kidlit writers. Gennie will discuss typical developmental milestones for children ages 0-12, the development of language and humor, and how to use/cite the Common Core State Standards in your manuscript's back matter.

Gennie Gorback

Gennie (pronounced "Jenny") Gorback is an Early Childhood Educator with a Masters of Education in Teaching and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from University of California, Santa Barbara. She has been working with young children for over 15 years. Currently, Gennie works as a teacher trainer/educational consultant, and writes content for the web-based Early Literacy program My Sound Town, which is a science-of-reading-aligned supplemental curriculum focusing on phonemic awareness and phonics for young learners. Gennie supports educators by promoting learning through play and developmentally appropriate practices through her work on the Board of Directors for the California Kindergarten Association, including her work as board President (2021-2023) and still serves on the executive committee today. A picture book enthusiast, Gennie has been writing for children since 2010 and is excited to share her knowledge of child development with the kidlit writing community.
