What are the benefits of becoming a member?

For an annual fee, members gain exclusive access to invaluable children's book writing, illustrating, and translating resources for both pre-published book creators and experienced professionals. SCBWI members benefit from networking opportunities with publishing industry professionals at conferences and events; opportunities for manuscript and portfolio critiques by editors, agents, and art directors, in-person and virtual events and conferences, with the ability to join virtual events from any of our global regions, plus resources to support self-publishing. There are member-only discounts on publishing products and services, opportunities for appearances at important industry events, including the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the National Council of Teachers of English convention, and so much more. Are there different types of membership?

SCBWI offers Premium Memberships for individuals who pay annual dues. Premium Members receive full access to all member benefits. There are three types of Premium membership: PAL - traditionally published in the children’s book industry. Full - self-published or published in another category outside of children’s books. Associate - pre-published in children’s books. Discounted premium membership rates are available for: Students - currently enrolled college undergraduate and graduate students 18 years old and older who supply proof of enrollment. Developing Nations - residents of the countries designated by the United Nations Go to the Membership page for more information and pricing.

How do I pay for my membership?

To pay for or renew your membership, you can do so online by going to your Member Home > My Profile > Membership Details. You can also send the check for the applicable membership rate to SCBWI, 2708 Wilshire Boulevard, PMB 344, Santa Monica, CA 90403. If you want your membership to be listed under a pen name, write it on the memo line of your check.

What are Preview Users?

Preview Users are not SCBWI members just yet. They can sign up on our website to explore a sneak peek at membership, but since they have not paid dues, they are not premium members. Preview users can only access public content, including the SCBWI podcast, blog, YouTube channel, and public events. They can create a profile but cannot upload their books or artwork, and they do not get SCBWI Premium Member benefits and discounts.
